The morning of 26 July 2005 saw ex-South Wales AEC Regent III JWN 908 - recently purchased for preservation in the UK - extracted from her long-term resting place in Bayonne, NJ, and hauled to the docks at Newark for repatriation to Swansea (via Southampton Docks) for restoration. Photo summary... 3580: Peacefully loitering as usual about 5 minutes before the tow truck arrived. 3581-3605: Departure from the yard in Bayonne. 3607/3609: Inflating the semi-flat tyres for the long journey ahead. 3610-3612: On the road between Bayonne and Jersey City. 3616-3620: Outside the towing company's premises in Jersey City, the stop was required to pick up paperwork for the shipping company. I was too busy photographing to notice that the towing lights had come adrift! 3622-3627: On the road between Jersey City and Port Newark. 3628-3643: At the entrance to the docks. We had over an hour's wait there as it was lunchtime, so I added a couple of personal touches to the bus such as displaying the authentic UK reg. on the back. 3644-3659: In the docks at the eastern end, again there was a wait to get paperwork processed so there was plenty of time for photos. 3661-3669: Transfer to another part of the docks for more paperwork and measuring. 3670-3691: The final movement within the dock complex - this time to the heavy lifting area to be put on a flat rack for hoisting on to the container ship.
